Lewes police are investigating 7 burglaries that occurred between Thursday 22/6, evening and Sunday morning 25/6. Houses in Southover High Street, Pipe Passage, White Hart Hotel, Hawkenbury Way, Rufus Close and The Avenue were broken into. In several of them handbags were stolen. In one of the burglaries car keys were taken and the car, a VW Passat, was stolen but later recovered. Over the past weekend there were 3 other burglaries that occurred in Highdown Road, New Road and Toronto Terrace, and again hand bags were stolen. ¨ Police have increased patrols. PC Ellison “We urge people to make sure doors are locked and certainly windows on the ground floor are locked. It is common in the warmer summer months for people to leave windows open but the opportunist burglar may see this as the ideal entry point. We are currently following several lines of enquiry” Police are appealing for anyone with information concerning these incidents to call Sussex Police on 0845 6070999 and quote serial 629 of the 22/06/08 or alternatively call crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
Lewes police are investigating the theft or around 10 Drain/manhole covers which occurred between 2230 hours on Sunday evening and 0400 hours the following morning, The drains were stolen from Cliffe Industrial Estate.
Exhaust and Catalytic Converter Thefts. Between Tuesday the 3rd of June and Monday the 9th of June, residents of Lewes have been targeted in a spate of exhaust and catalytic converter thefts. To date there have been six reported incidents and the offences have been centred around the areas of Brooks Road, Grange Road, South Down Road, Garden Street, Mountfield Road and Western Road. The offences occur overnight and the vehicles targeted are of all different makes and models. Sussex Neighbourhood Watch Search Team (East Sussex). 35 volunteers have now completed the next stage of their training, Within 2 hours of being deployed, the missing person was found. Further training and the purchase of essential equipment are to continue.
