A  feature of 'Ringmer Out and About'

The background music to this page is the  piano solo Theme from Limelight by Sir Charles Chaplin (1889-1977).  British film actor Charlie Chaplin was recruited from Fred Karno's pantomime whilst touring the USA in 1913.  He became famous for his portrayals of a sensitive but pathetic tramp dressed in baggy trousers and a bowler hat.  From 1918 he wrote and directed his own films.

Those with long enough memories will recall, amongst others, the great names of Henry Hall and his Orchestra, Joe Loss and his Band; singers Dame Vera Lynn (now a resident of Sussex), Gracie Fields, Jill Daniels and Evelyn Laye, who featured these songs.

'Goodnight Children Everywhere' will bring back poignant memories of wartime to those who were evacuated as children, some of them unaccompanied by parents or relatives, and moved away from London and other danger areas to be taken in and cared for by families who were often unknown to them.
